Overview
If you are currently using an ID TECH SREDKey 2 card reader device, you may need to update your device's firmware prior to August 9th, 2022.
If your device is running a firmware version prior to v1.01.008.0392.S, your device's current encryption key certificates will expire on August 9th, 2022. As a result, the device will no longer function, unless you update the firmware to v1.01.008.0392.S or higher.

To check your device's firmware version, disconnect and reconnect the device. The current firmware version is displayed briefly when the device powers on.
If the firmware version is prior to v1.01.008.0392.S, you must update your device. If your device is already running a later version of the firmware, then no action is required.
What do I need to do?
Disconnect and reconnect your device to view the firmware version displayed during startup. If the firmware version is prior to v1.01.008.0392.S, you must update your device. If your device is already running a later version of the firmware, then no action is required.
To update your device, do the following:
- Access the ID TECH SREDKey 2 Firmware Update Guide for detailed instructions and links to download the firmware update package.
- Download the latest firmware update package to a Windows computer.
- Connect the SREDKey 2 to your computer.
- From the package, run the ID TECH Reader Bootload Software and follow the instructions in the ID TECH SREDKey 2 Firmware Update Guide to update both the Bootloader and Firmware.
- When complete, verify that the firmware version displayed in the app is v1.01.008.0392.S or higher.
