Pairing the Device

Once the device is charged and ready for use, follow the below to pair the device to your mobile application running on your phone or tablet.

The Clover Go 3 device must have at least 20% battery for the initial connection. If it does not, it will return a .lowBattery error.

The first time a Clover Go 3 device connects to an application wil require a 2-3 minute waiting period. During this period, the device will return .updating and then return .initializing while it installs the necessary keys.

During this initialization period, do not disconnect the device. Ensure the application, Clover Go 3 device, and mobile device remain active during this period. If this initialization period is disrupted, the firmware update will need to be restarted.

  1. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone or tablet, and that no other devices are currently connected.

  2. Launch your mobile app and log on, if necessary.

  3. The application will prompt for Bluetooth permission upon startup and scan for devices. It will connect to the first device found.

  4. When prompted, enter the pairing code for the device. This number is the last 6 digits of the software number. This number will also appear in the device name in the bluetooth settings.

For more information on connecting the Clover Go 3 device to your mobile device for use in your mobile application, refer to our Clover Go 3 Integration Guide.

      Using Your Device

The Clover Go 3 device communicates with your mobile payment application using Bluetooth. When your application initiates a payment request to the device, you or the cardholder can insert or tap a card to make a payment.

      NFC Troubleshooting

To avoid accidental NFC interference, please ensure your phone, especially if it has a digital wallet (e.g. Apple Pay, Google Pay), is kept at a safe distance from the Go3 mobile terminal while processing customer payments. Holding your phone too close may unintentionally trigger a transaction attempt from your device.

The following topics provide information for troubleshooting your Clover Go 3 device.

Four colored LED lights on the front of the device indicate various statuses.

      • The pink LED indicates the battery status while charging.
        • If the pink LED flashes, the device is charging.
        • If the pink LED is solid, the device is fully charged.
      • The blue LED indicates the Bluetooth status.
        • If the blue LED is flashing, the device is ready to pair.
        • If the blue LED is solid, the device is paired.
      • The solid green LED light indicates that the device is ready to accept payment via card insertion or contactless tap.

      • The flashing red LED light indicates the battery is critically low.

If you are unable to pair the device with your app, do the following:

      • Ensure that your phone or tablet does not have any active Bluetooth connections, and that no devices (for example, headphones) are connected to the auxiliary jack or Lightning port.
      • Connect the device to a power source.

If you have multiple devices in use, you may need to determine which device you are trying to pair with your app. When connecting, the pairing code is the last 6 digits of the device number. This number will also appear in the device name in the bluetooth settings.
